The
a.g.f Swap Quilt is composed of twenty-four blocks,
by perhaps as many as 16 different quilters. The
quilt is the result of my participation in 4 quilt
square swaps of six squares each. The swaps originated
on the Usenet newsgroup alt.gothic.fashion,
and spilled over into the "goth-quilter"
e-list <darkarachne>. The swaps were initially
run by Posbina/Thryn, who IIRC bowed out as swapmistress
for at least one, which was run by me. In the
swap I ran, a swapper named VLillyV volunteered
to make two sets of six squares each, so that
we could give a set as a wedding gift to former-swapper
Trystan
Bass, who had to forgo participation in that
round in order to plan her wedding. The squares were intended to be 12" finished size, but not all of the ones I received were uniform in size, so some have larger sashing borders than others to account for these discrepancies. The quilt is bordered in a cotton print depicting leafless winter trees, flying bats, and forks of metallic gold lightning against the background of a fiery sunset. The quilt is backed with plain black cotton. Not all of the squares' makers are known. Some people labeled their blocks, or signed them on the back, and that is how they have been identified. Others I *think* I remember the makers, but could be wrong on, and some I'm not sure if I ever knew who did them.
Do you have more information about a square in the a.g.f Swap Quilt? Know who made one of the "unknown" blocks? Have we misattributed one? Know the name of one of the traditional patterns used that we haven't identified correctly? Did you make one of the blocks and want us to link to your site here? Please tell us!
The quilt was custom machine-quilted by The Country Corner Quilt Shop of Harrison, AR, a machine quilting service recommended to me by a.g.f-er Sheila Marie. Each square is quilted differently, with borders of wavy lines interspersed with random flying bats.
